For my practical body of work, I explore the relationship between visual expression and musical embodiment.
I have chosen to base my body of work on the concept of Synaesthesia, which has been defined as a phenomenon which occurs when two unusual senses link. For instance the occurrence of seeing sounds, hearing colours and smelling shapes. There are various different forms of this phenomenon but for the purpose of my work a visual analysis on music-colour Synaesthesia, also known as Chromesthesia, will be made and translated into contemporary jewellery pieces. Chromesthesia transpires when certain sounds evoke specific colours within an individual. Although I am not a synesthete, I have developed a personal music-sound palette from my own compositions on the piano. The colours in my pieces represent different notes, thus I have attempted to create wearable music.
