Over the past two decades my body has undergone stresses due to psychological trauma. These have manifested in my body in a number of ways including; skin irritations, physical pains and body fatigue.
I began to explore the concept of skin and the body as a vessel of physical and emotional trauma. I use plastic kitchen wrap and Sellotape to wrap various objects as well as my body and my dog’s body to create a new skin. Through wrapping different objects, I became more aware of the spaces within and around them as well as finding different venerable entries into the human body.
In addition to the plastic kitchen wrap and Sellotape casts, I collect my own hair and that of my dog to create a layer of fur on the objects/bodies as well as explore various formations the hair can take, which often takes the form of nerve like structures or tufts of hair. I specifically only collect my own hair and that of my dog’s, because it is something quite personal to me. This becomes a precious act of collecting and storing.
I make moulds of select parts of my body and cast these forms in wax, these parts of my body include my nipple, my belly, my vagina, my chest and the inside of my mouth. Trying to make something that is private, public. Attempting to shift the role on what is public and what is private, in a way to expose secrets in indirect manners.
