There is a reason the words “once upon a time” strike up a feeling of interest in all of us. As a designer, I explored the relationship of storytelling in combination with craft and how handcrafted objects can fabricate value. I do so by elevating the traditional practice of crochet as a tool that can communicate and challenge stigmatized ideas surrounding craft and perceptions of femininity. The objective of this study is, on the one hand, to investigate crochet as a tool that can fabricate value through storytelling, and on the other hand serves as an attempt to, destigmatise gender-based stereotypes that have been connected to craft practices by telling stories through the use of crochet in unconventional ways.
