In our current geological age, we are faced with a period in time where human activity has been a dominant influence on the climate and the environment. As a by-product from our influence, we are stared in the face by the aftermath of our creation only to witness a few surviving fragments serving as a living visual reminder to shape our perception and understanding.
As a human being, we seek guidance in order to formulate our perception. First impressions play a vital role in shaping the way that we see, understand and form opinions. This method can often lead to deception. a Misinterpretation, conceived through the lack of time and knowledge.
In my practical research, I investigate the deeper understanding concealed within the burnt landscape in order to obtain an optimistic and regenerative perspective. The Burnt Landscape symbolizes the first impression made by the human conscious. My practical work is based on exploring natural systems established in order to accommodate and thrive on the impact of burning.
Within my practice I have deliberately chosen to work with materials that need to endure the process of heat in order to reach their full potential. This is a metaphorical reference that acknowledge the landscape own encounter with heat. Working with materials like glass, metal, porcelain and wax, I mimic the process burning while unveiling the new creations hidden within the process. My practical outcome acts as a guidance for the viewer through exposing the regenerative nature which is created through devastation.
